Operation 1325 is a program in several phases leading up to the 10-year anniversary of resolution 1325 in 2010.

From resolution to Operation?

In 2003 six Swedish women oganizations arranged a meeting to discuss how they could cooperation in order contribute to the implementation of the landmark UN Security Councill Resolution 1325:2000 on Women, Peace, Security. A network was established who in 2006 evolved into an organisation, Operation 1325.

The overall aim of Operation 1325 is to assist in the implementation resolution 1325:2000 in Sweden and internationally.

What do Operation 1325 do?

We inform

We increase the knowledge among the public about resolution 1325 and inform about how the peace work of women and implementation of the resolution pursue worldwide.

We train and capacity-build

Since we want to increase the possibility for women to participate as agents in all work related to peace and security we arrange courses and seminars to capacity-build and train women on relevant themes and topics. One aim is to create an index with women to be recruited for work in the field of peace and security.

We petition politicians

We constantly encourage decision-makers to take acitons in line with resolution 1325. We inform, advocate and remind politicians about the undertakings that the Swedish national aciton involve. In 2007 we also initiated this work on EU level on a small scale.

Our goals are:

  • To plan and implement a joint program for education and capacity-building of women, with a special focus on conflict areas.
  • To build local, national and international networks in support of resolution 1325.
  • To use these networks for information, communication and for raising public awareness.
  • To influence politicians and other decision-makers nationally and internationally.
  • To facilitate and ensure the recruitment of women for work in informal and formal peace building on all levels. E. g by creating national and regional resource banks/rosters of skilled and qualified women.
